🌸 Saree Care Guide: Preserving Your Heritage

A handloom saree is not just a piece of clothing; it is a labor of love by the weavers of Santipur. To ensure your Craftmart sarees remain as beautiful as the day you bought them, follow this essential care guide.

🧵 1. General Care for All Handlooms

• Air them out: Every 3–4 months, take your sarees out of the cupboard and change their folds to prevent permanent "crease marks" or fabric tearing along the fold lines.

• Avoid Perfumes: Never spray perfume directly on the fabric, especially on Zari or Muslin, as the chemicals can cause permanent staining or discoloration.

• Storage: Store your sarees in a cool, dry place. Avoid using plastic covers; instead, use breathable cotton saree bags or wrap them in a clean white muslin cloth.

Different fabrics require different levels of care.

Handloom Muslin & Jamdani

• Dry Clean Only: These are high-precision weaves. We strictly recommend Professional Dry Cleaning to maintain the texture and the intricate threadwork.

• No Soaking: Never soak a Jamdani saree in water, as it may cause the delicate threads to shift.

Handloom Cotton & Cotton Prints

• First Wash: We recommend a Cold Water Salt Soak for the first wash to "lock" the colors.

• Hand Wash: Use a mild detergent (like Ezee or Gentle). Do not wring or twist the saree.

• Avoid Bleach: Never use bleach or harsh chemicals on handloom cotton.

☀️ 3. Drying & Ironing

• Shadow Dry: Always dry your sarees in the shade. Direct sunlight is the biggest enemy of natural dyes and will cause the colors to fade quickly.

• Ironing: * Always iron on the reverse side of the saree.

  • Use a Low to Medium heat setting.

  • For Jamdani, place a thin cotton cloth over the saree while ironing to protect the delicate hand-woven motifs.

• No Direct Contact: If your saree has gold or silver Zari (like in premium Wedding Collections), ensure it does not come into contact with sweat or moisture, as it can cause the Zari to turn black (oxidize).

• Folding: Fold the Zari inward to protect it from friction with other garments.

The Hanger Rule: Never hang your heavy handloom or Jamdani sarees on metal hangers for long periods. The weight of the saree can cause the fabric to stretch and lose its shape. Folding is always better!
